Ioannis Fetanis
winter 2024
In Waving Through Folklore, artist loannis Fetanis invites viewers on a journey through a “calendar” of handwoven flags-each a vibrant emblem of Greek folklore, inspired by the colors and customs of his childhood. With one flag for each month, Fetanis captures the rhythm of Greek life and tradition, from winter’s rituals to the summer’s lively festivals and autumn’s abundant harvests.
These flags are more than symbols; they’re infused with Fetanis’ personal memories and a deep reverence for shared heritage. Through colors, forms, and motifs, each piece connects the viewer to the spirit of each season, evoking nostalgia and celebrating the continuity of tradition.
Waving Through Folklore is both a tribute and an invitation to see Greek culture anew-alive, evolving, and woven into the fabric of everyday life.
fei alexeli

Driving in the core of the desert, one is leaving dense civilised pieces of the world behind. Narrative changes. Landscape gets simpler. The silence of the desert becomes a visual thing. A product of the gaze that stares and finds nothing to reflect upon. The desert is no longer a landscape, but rather an abstraction. All that remains of a violent, latent and lethal landscape are these signs of civilisation, facing out the rocks and the sand. They no longer calling upon masses, but speaking to the sky and the open space. Hyperreality takes over. Everything is real, without a true sense of origin or reality.
And things appear and disappear in the same way, abruptly. In the heart of the desert, the absolute fascination lies, the disappearance of all aesthetics and most critical form of life. And if someone’s wishes, even the disappearance of one self. Coming from nowhere and going nowhere, this is ‘Somewhere To Disappear’.
