Christos Koutsoukos
SUMMER 2024
BOMB Number 15, 2023
Acrylic Gouache, pencil on Canvas
Dimensions: 120×120 cm
Christos Koutsoukos,(b. 1981 Athens, GR) is a painter based in Athens. His artistic exploration revolves around the use of color and its dynamic interaction with archetypal human figures. In his series titled “Bombs,” Koutsoukos depicts childlike figures engaged in bomb dives. The genesis of this series can be traced back to 2017, during the Syrian war, when Christos encountered a poignant image of a young boy who had survived a bombing in his apartment building. The child appeared deeply frightened, almost devoid of facial expression. This powerful image served as the catalyst for a series aimed at reminding viewers that children should only experience the joyous “bombs” they create while playing in the sea.
Over time, Koutsoukos’ artistic journey has transformed into a celebration of color and Greek summer, delving into more abstract interpretations of human figures and their interplay with vibrant hues.
